Toronto Raptors and Bell AR Celebration for 25th Anniversary of Vince Carter’s Iconic Dunk

This week, the Toronto Raptors and Bell marked the 25th anniversary of Vince Carter’s winning performance during the 2000 NBA Slam Dunk Contest with an in-arena celebration as well as released an augmented reality (AR) experience for mobile devices.
On February 12, 2000, Vince Carter blew fans and audiences away by performing the between-the-legs dunk. This feat of excellence shook the world and has since become one of the most iconic moments in the NBA. Flash forward to February 12, 2025, and the Toronto Raptors are reflecting on this moment with Bell.
Against the Clevland Cavaliers, the Toronto Raptors held the ‘Dunkaversary’ at Scotiabank Arena in the city. As part of Greatest of All Toronto (GOAT) Night, fans were able to attend and celebrate Carter’s achievement. The team played in the 2024-25 City Edition jersey with a matching court design, paying tribute to the dunk. A reimagined logo was also created.
Moreso, Bell has launched the Sky Slam experience. Available in the Toronto Raptors app or at BellSkySlam.ca, fans can use AR technology to render a 3D recreation of Carter’s dunk across any skyline in Canada. The experience allows fans to capture the video and share on social media. It’s a fun little experience to see Carter soaring through the sky, similar to how he performed during the dunk contest all those years ago. Fans will also be eligible to win a signed City Edition jersey or tickets to an upcoming Raptors game.
“Over the past six months, it has been an honour to share a number of incredibly special moments with basketball fans and with my family,” Carter said in a press release. “From joining the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, to two jersey retirements, these celebrations are memories that my family and I will treasure forever. Having the opportunity to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the 2000 Dunk Contest, and its impact on the Raptors and basketball in Canada, just days before the NBA All-Star Weekend returns to the Bay area is very fitting and I’m looking forward to sharing the moment with Raptors fans next week.”
Unfortunately, the Dunkaversary resulted in a 131-108 loss for the Raptors. However, for fans who were able to attend the game at Scotiabank, they were met with a halftime performance featuring Onyx as well as a chance to nab a limited-edition collectible shirt with a one-of-a-kind design featuring Carter. Though, these were set aside for the first 5,000 fans.
