CarPlay Adds New Row of Apps, as Discovered by iOS 18.4 Beta

Apple is adding a new row of apps to utilize in CarPlay. Thanks to the first iOS 18.4 beta, CarPlay users are now granted a third row of apps, a notable expansion from the standard two rows.

Upon the rollout of the first iOS 18.4 beta, users are able to begin taking advantage of the changes to CarPlay. With the beta now available, CarPlay will show users a third row of apps. However, it’s worth noting that reports indicate the third row will only be supported on select vehicles.

According to MacRumorsthe third row of apps CarPlay is now able to display all centres on the amount of screen real estate available. It’s reported that vehicles with smaller displays will continue to support two rows of four app icons. For instance, a vehicle with a nine-inch display may not see the effects of this latest change. However, it’s claimed that those with say a 14-inch display or larger will be granted the extra row to utilize.

Having a third row of apps in CarPlay is a great quality-of-life change for users. It’ll give drivers and passengers more immediate access to apps that matter the most. Whether it’s for navigation, music, communication, etc., users won’t have to scroll between pages as much to find what they’re looking for.

Currently, iOS 18.4 is still in the beta phase. The wider, global release of the software isn’t expected to ship until early April at the very least.
