Is Amazon Alexa+ Coming to Canada? Here’s What You Need to Know

Alexa+ is Amazon’s next-generation AI assistant designed to make life easier by handling tasks, keeping you entertained, and helping you stay organized. Amazon unveiled Alexa+ today at a live event in New York City.

According to the company, Alexa+ can handle all your voice queries through natural conversation. It’s powered by Amazon Bedrock, which uses the company’s Nova AI models and tech from Anthropic to make interactions feel smooth and intelligent.

Instead of relying on a single AI, Alexa+ picks the best model for each task, ensuring fast, accurate responses. It even pulls real-time updates from AP, Reuters, Time, and USA Today, so you get reliable info on everything from news to sports scores.

Now the big question is will Alexa+ be available in Canada? An Amazon spokesperson told iPhone in Canada in an email that “Alexa+ will be available in English to customers in the U.S. to start, and will roll out to all countries where Alexa is available today.”

“We already have teams around the world – from scientists to engineers – working on localizing this experience,” said the spokesperson. In the past, new Amazon features always debut first in the U.S., then trickle into Canada. This sounds like it will be worth the wait for Echo customers as a super smart AI version of Alexa is what is needed.

For now, Alexa+ costs $19.99 USD per month but will be free for Prime members, offering yet another reason to stay subscribed to Prime. Users in the U.S. will get access to Alexa+ in March, with Echo Show devices such as 8, 10, 15, and 21 to get access first, followed by a wider release in the following months.

Below is a list of what Alexa+ can do according to Amazon:

  • Have natural, free-flowing conversations without needing precise commands.
  • Answer nearly any question on a wide range of topics.
  • Provide real-time news and updates from top sources like Reuters and Time
  • Remember important details like frequent flyer numbers and favourite restaurants.
  • Summarize emails, documents, and study materials.
  • Manage calendars, set reminders, and schedule events.
  • Extract details from emails and add them to the calendar automatically.
  • Write and send emails and text messages by voice.
  • Recommend movies, books, music, and podcasts based on preferences.
  • Skip to specific scenes in movies on Prime Video using actor names or quotes.
  • Move music between rooms with simple voice commands.
  • Control smart home devices and create personalized automation routines.
  • Summarize Ring camera footage and provide security updates.
  • Order groceries, make restaurant reservations, and book rideshares.
  • Track concert tickets and monitor deals on Amazon.
  • Plan travel itineraries and provide destination recommendations.
  • Help with cooking by setting smart timers and suggesting recipes.
  • Identify objects and read documents using the Echo Show camera.
  • Set personalized reminders for family members.
  • Display and organize photos with Amazon Photos integration.
  • Generate music, images, and personalized AI content on request.
  • Offer kid-friendly learning experiences with age-appropriate responses.
  • Create interactive, AI-generated bedtime stories for children.
  • Keep conversations going across Echo devices, the Alexa app, and the web.

We know Amazon is going to make it into another extra subscription about a 6 months to a year after it's adapted.

So Americans pay $9.99/month or $19.99/month. What idiot would say i want to pay more and get less? So clearly they are raising the price of Amazon prime…
