McCain Launches AR Farming Game on Mobile

McCain has released a farming AR game for mobile. Farms of the Future AR is a free-to-play AR experience, available within a browser on a smartphone. It’s designed to educate players on regenerative agriculture practices.

The popular Canadian brand behind many potato and dessert products has launched an AR experience as an offshoot of its 2022 Farms of the Future game. The WebAR experience is said to turn “users into farmers, teaching them how soil health may impact potato production while competing for exclusive prizes.”

The AR experience features two main characters. Players will be introduced to Vera, the farming guide who leads players through the experience. Wormy is the other character, powered by AI and offers info on the regenerative agriculture process.

In Farms of the Future AR, players are encouraged to grow potatoes through regenerative agriculture practices. As they do, they’ll earn points. Accumulating points rises them through the ranks of the leaderboard, earning prizes. McCain is offering everything from swag made from upcycled and recycled materials, free coupons, or even a farm-themed getaway. Prizes given to high-performing players on the leaderboard are given out weekly. A grand prize will also be awarded after a six-week competition.

“We know that to get more people excited about McCain’s regenerative farming journey, we have to meet them where they already are—in their kitchens, on their phones, and in pop culture,” Christine Kalvenes, Global Chief Innovation & Marketing Officer, McCain Foods said in a press release. “By making the future of farming fun, social, and interactive, we’re proving that sustainability doesn’t have to be serious—it just has to be smart.”

McCain’s Farm of the Future AR game is available to play now in-browser via www.regenfries.com.
