Cheaper Ad-Free YouTube ‘Premium Lite’ Plan Debuts in U.S.
YouTube has officially launched its more affordable subscription tier, Premium Lite, in the U.S., offering users an ad-free viewing experience on most videos for $7.99 per month.

The move aims to provide a budget-friendly alternative to the standard YouTube Premium plan, which is priced at $13.99 per month.
Premium Lite is designed for users who primarily consume non-music content on YouTube. Subscribers to this plan can enjoy ad-free viewing on a wide range of videos, including those related to gaming, comedy, cooking, and learning.
However, it’s important to note that music videos are not included in the ad-free offering; ads will still appear on music-related content.
In addition to the exclusion of ad-free music videos, Premium Lite does not include other features available in the standard Premium plan, such as offline downloads, background playback, and access to YouTube Music. These features remain exclusive to the full Premium subscription.
The introduction of Premium Lite in the U.S. follows a successful pilot phase in select markets, including Thailand, Germany, and Australia. YouTube plans to expand this offering to additional countries throughout the year.
The new tier is particularly appealing to users who utilize other music streaming services and primarily engage with non-music content on YouTube. The introduction of this more affordable option reflects YouTube’s strategy to diversify its subscription offerings and cater to a broader audience.

Nonethtless, for YouTube users who seek ad-free music streaming, offline downloads, and background playback, the standard Premium plan at $13.99 per month still may be more suitable.
