TikTok Says New Screen Time Tools for Parents and Teens Coming

TikTok is launching new tools to help parents guide their teens’ app use and encourage healthier online habits.

A key update is the Time Away feature, letting parents block TikTok access during certain times, like bedtime or school hours. Parents can set schedules, and while teens can request extra time, parents have the final say. Parents will also be able to see who their teen follows, who follows them, and which accounts they’ve blocked.

For teens under 16, TikTok is adding a wind-down feature. If they use the app after 10 PM, they’ll see a calming, full-screen reminder with relaxing music. If they keep scrolling, they’ll get a second, harder-to-dismiss prompt. TikTok is also testing meditation exercises to help improve sleep. If you can’t wait a video, why not try some meditation to bring you back down?

The app is also exploring better ways to confirm user ages and will remove some outdated features, like Training Potions, to simplify the experience.

TikTok says these changes are designed to help teens develop better digital habits and give parents more control over their kids’ screen time. The updates will roll out in the coming weeks. If this will help axe your ‘doom scrolling’ addiction, it’s a good thing.
