Paramount+ has officially renewed Landman for a second season following a breakout debut that set streaming records and drew massive global viewership. Landman has been one of the best new shows this year we think.

The drama, starring Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore, premiered to 35 million global viewers, becoming the most-watched global premiere and finale in Paramount+ history. It also ranked as the platform’s #1 original series in the U.S., the top engagement driver, and the most-watched in U.S. households, said the company on Wednesday.

Landman also earned a spot as one of the Top 10 Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) Original Series across all streaming platforms in Q4 2024, alongside Paramount+ hits Tulsa King and Lioness. This marks only the second time since Nielsen began tracking SVODs in 2017 that a service outside Netflix has secured three spots in the top 10.

Thornton received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Tommy Norris, king of one-liners in the oil patch.

Co-CEO of Paramount Global, Chris McCarthy, said, “Landman was one of the biggest shows of the year because of Taylor Sheridan’s unique ability to tap into the cultural zeitgeist, harnessing themes of rugged individualism, ambition, and working-class struggles.”

Set in the boomtowns of West Texas, Landman explores the modern-day world of oil rigs, ambition, and economic growth. The series is based on the 11-part podcast Boomtown and produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, and Bosque Ranch Productions.

Season one of Landman is available for streaming exclusively on Paramount+, which start from $6.99/month in Canada.
