Xbox Reveals Copilot for Gaming: Will It Make You a Better Player?

Xbox has unveiled what it is calling Copilot for Gaming, an AI-powered feature designed to make gaming smoother and faster.
Announced on the Official Xbox Podcast, the tool acts as a personalized assistant, helping players set up games, improve skills, and connect with friends. It can also offer real-time, in-game advice to help players overcome tough challenges but stays out of the way unless activated by the player.
“Gaming is the only form of entertainment where you can get stuck,” said Fatima Kardar, Xbox’s Vice President of Gaming AI. “That’s where you want something to show up and say, ‘let’s help you get past that.’”
Copilot is built around three core ideas: capability, adaptability, and personalization. It helps players spend less time searching, downloading, and setting up games, and more time actually playing. It can also remind players where they left off in a game they haven’t played in a while.
The feature will first be tested by Xbox Insiders on mobile, with plans to expand to other devices later. Feedback from this group will shape its development, ensuring it meets player needs without disrupting gameplay. Interested players can join the Xbox Insider Program to try it out early.
One screenshot shared by Xbox shows someone playing Minecraft. The player asks, “okay I’ve got some wood. What do I do with that?”. The Copilot AI then replies, “craft the oak logs into wooden planks by opening your inventory and placing the logs in the crafting area.” That is helpful if you’re a Minecraft newbie. Instead of searching the web or YouTube, the Copilot for Gaming AI gives you the answer right away, saving you time.
The podcast also announced that the Xbox Play Anywhere library now includes over 1,000 games, allowing players to game across Xbox and Windows devices while keeping progress, saves, and achievements synced. Xbox says Play Anywhere games see about 20% more gameplay because of the flexibility to play at home or on the go.
