OneXSugar is a New Handheld, Functioning like a Nintendo Switch and DS Hybrid

OneXPlayer has announced its dual-screen gaming handheld dubbed the OneXSugar. This impressive new piece of gaming tech is claimed to be “the world’s first transformable dual-screen gaming handheld.”

The OneXSugar borrows heavily from the Nintendo Switch’s design philosophy and marries it with the Nintendo DS’ dual-screen functionality. This is all thanks to the use of a secondary display that flips out from the main screen. The OneXSugar also utilizes rotating controllers.

The OneXSugar features a 6.01-inch display. The secondary screen is a 3.92-inch display. When both are in use, they lay perpendicular in horizontal positions. However, the secondary screen folds into the back of the core device when it’s not in use.

Under the hood, the OneXSugar is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 processor. The new chipset has been designed to be a high-performer for gaming handhelds. It supports an 8-core Kyro CPU and an Adreno A32 GPU. This ensures that devices are capable of supporting ray tracing.

OneXPlayer has stated that the device supports “magnetic” joysticks. However, it’s still unclear if they are removable, much like Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons. Alternatively, the OneXSugar could offer Hall effect joysticks or those with TMR sensors.

As of right now, OneXPlayer has launched an Indiegogo campaign to support the OneXSugar. While it’s unclear when the device will make its arrival in Canada, those interested can sign up to save 30 percent when preorders go live later in May. There’s also no pricing information available yet.
