ID@Xbox To Have Paid More than $5 Billion to Indie Developers Since Launching

As the 2025 Game Developer Conference (GDC) is well underway, Microsoft has announced that the ID@Xbox platform has paid out more than $5 billion USD (around $7.1 billion CAD) to indie developers. Over the years, ID@Xbox has helped support and spotlight the launch of indie games within the Xbox ecosystem,
“We’re also proud to offer developers the ability to use our platform to maximize the opportunity to reach an audience across multiple screens,” a recent Xbox Wire post notes regarding the support of indie developers. More than $5 billion has gone towards indie developers “all over the world.” This includes recently launched and beloved ID@Xbox titles including Balatro, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, and Phasmophobia.
Additionally, Microsoft states that over 1,000 ID@Xbox titles support Xbox Play Anywhere (XPA). As part of XPA, players can access their purchased games across Xbox consoles and Windows PC at no additional costs. This initiative is a major perk for players as it enriches the accessibility of games across two major platforms. Microsoft states that with XPA, supported titles are “getting 20% more play time.”
ID@Xbox was first launched in 2013. It was designed to allow indie developers to self-publish their games on Xbox consoles as well as Windows 11. “We’re focused on helping independent teams enable Xbox Play Anywhere to reach more players – allowing seamless play across console, PC, and cloud,” the company has said. “No matter where people choose to play, we’re working with developers to make the most of the features unique to that device or screen.”
Looking forward, highly anticipated games like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Descenders Next, FBC: Firebreak and Hollow Knight: Silksong will be launching as part of the lineup.
