Google Gemini’s New AI Video Features Rolling Out Now

Google has started deploying advanced AI video functionalities within its Gemini Live platform, enabling real-time interaction through users’ device screens and smartphone cameras, as noted by The Verge.

Earlier this month, Google demoed new Gemini AI features like real-time video interaction and screen-sharing capabilities at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, which are now available to Gemini Advanced subscribers on the Google One AI Premium plan.

The Live Video feature allows users to engage with Gemini through their device’s camera, enabling the AI to process visual information in real-time and respond to user inquiries. For instance, a user can showcase their pottery collection and seek advice on suitable colors for a new vase.

With the new screen-sharing capability, users can share their device’s screen with Gemini, facilitating real-time assistance based on on-screen content. This feature is particularly useful for tasks such as online shopping, where users can receive fashion advice or product recommendations.

Early adopters have reported the appearance of these features on their devices. For instance, a Reddit user demonstrated Gemini’s screen-reading capability on a Xiaomi phone, showcasing the AI’s ability to interpret and respond to on-screen content in real-time.

The development of these features stems from Google’s Project Astra, an ambitious endeavor aimed at creating a multimodal, real-time AI assistant. First unveiled at Google I/O 2024, Astra aspires to function as an always-on helper, capable of integrating seamlessly into users’ daily lives.

While Amazon is preparing for the limited early access debut of its Alexa Plus upgrade and Apple has delayed its upgraded Siri, Google’s proactive deployment of these features positions it ahead in the AI assistant market.

Initially available on Android devices, users will notice new icons in the Gemini Live interface to access these functionalities.
