Google Meet Gets New AI Features for Virtual Meetings

Google has announced a series of AI-driven enhancements for Google Meet, introducing features such as custom background generation, studio-quality visual effects, and automatic action item creation.

One of the standout features is the ability to create personalized meeting backgrounds using AI. Users can input prompts to generate unique images, such as a “magical forest” or a “modern office space,” providing a tailored and engaging meeting environment.

Google Meet now also offers “Studio Look” and “Studio Lighting” features powered by machine learning. “Studio Look” enhances the user’s video feed by reducing noise and increasing sharpness, ensuring participants appear clear and professional. “Studio Lighting” simulates professional lighting conditions, adjusting light position and brightness to ensure optimal illumination during meetings.

Moreover, Google Meet can now automatically generate a checklist of suggested next steps at the conclusion of meetings. This includes assigning due dates and identifying primary stakeholders, streamlining post-meeting workflows and ensuring accountability among team members.

To bolster security, Google Meet has introduced watermarking for presented content and video feeds. This feature displays a subtle text overlay with the meeting code and the viewer’s email address, discouraging unauthorized sharing and protecting sensitive information discussed during meetings.

These AI-powered features are being rolled out to Google Workspace Business and Enterprise editions, with some functionalities requiring the Gemini add-on.

Users can access these tools through the latest versions of Chrome, Android, iOS apps, or Google Meet hardware devices. The rollout is expected to complete within 15 days from the announcement date.
