In a now-removed blog post, Best Buy Canada has pretty much confirmed that the company will open pre-orders for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 on April 2nd (via The Verge).
The date aligns with today’s Nintendo Direct presentation dedicated to unveiling the new console. The live-stream, set to begin at 6 a.m. PDT (9 a.m. EDT), is expected to provide an in-depth look at the console’s features, design, and launch titles.
While official details are pending, reports suggest that the Nintendo Switch 2 will feature a larger display and maintain backward compatibility with existing Switch titles. Additionally, the console is rumored to include magnetically attached Joy-Con controllers, potentially offering enhanced control capabilities.
Industry insiders indicate that Nintendo plans to release the Switch 2 in June 2025, implementing a three-phase rollout strategy for both first-party and third-party game titles throughout the year.
Nintendo has also organized nationwide events from April through May, allowing consumers to experience the Switch 2 firsthand. Due to high demand, these events are fully booked, and interested individuals are encouraged to join a waitlist for potential openings.
In a post on X, Nintendo of Canada stated the Nintendo Direct will feature “around 30 minutes of upcoming games for Nintendo Switch.” The live stream will be available on Nintendo’s official YouTube channel.
