Instagram Now Allows Fast-Forwarding of Reels Like TikTok
Instagram has introduced a new feature allowing users to fast-forward Reels by long-pressing on the right or left side of the screen, enabling playback at 2x speed, as noted by Tech Crunch.

This enhancement mirrors a popular TikTok functionality, reflecting Instagram’s ongoing strategy to incorporate features that enhance user engagement and content consumption efficiency.
Initially, both platforms limited video durations to 15 seconds. However, as user demand for longer content grew, TikTok extended its maximum video length and introduced playback speed controls. Similarly, Instagram Reels now supports videos up to three minutes long, with the added capability of accelerated viewing through the new fast-forward option.
The introduction of this feature also addresses concerns about the impact of short-form video content on attention spans. By allowing users to speed up longer videos, Instagram aims to maintain the quick, engaging nature of Reels while accommodating more extensive content.
In addition to the fast-forward feature, Instagram has been testing options that allow users to mark multiple posts as “Not Interested” and filter out suggested posts containing specific words, phrases, or emojis.

To use the new fast-forward feature, users simply need to long-press on either side of the screen during Reel playback to accelerate the video to 2x speed. Releasing the press returns the video to its normal speed.
