iOS 19 Might Drop Support for These Older Models

iOS 19 is expected to debut later this year, but one new rumour suggests it might not make its way to the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max (via 9to5Mac).

The information comes from an anonymous X account with a decent record of sharing accurate information regarding Apple software. Apple is due to unveil iOS 19 at WWDC 2025 in June, with the next iteration of the Operating System shipping alongside the iPhone 17 lineup later this fall. Alleged mock-ups of what iOS 19 could look like recently surfaced online.

It’s natural for Apple to drop support for the oldest iPhone models as it releases new versions of iOS. iOS 18, for example, skipped over the iPhone X last year. Apple launched the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max all the way back in September 2018.

The latest rumour contradicts iPhoneSoft, another source that previously said all iPhone models that received the iOS 18 update will also get iOS 19. If the new rumour turns out to be true, iOS 19 will be supported on the following iPhone models (alongside the iPhone 17 family):

  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 mini
  • iPhone 13 Pro
  • iPhone 14
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPhone 15
  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 16e
  • iPhone 16
  • iPhone 16 Pro
  • iPhone SE (2nd gen)
  • iPhone SE (3rd gen)

On the iPad side of things, the same leaker reported that iPadOS 19 will drop support for the iPad (7th generation) that came out in 2019.

Even if the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max don’t get iOS 19, they will continue to receive security and other software updates from Apple for a while.

If iOS 19 puts your iPhone on the chopping block, will you upgrade to a newer model? Let us know in the comments below.
