Nintendo Switch 2 Game Prices in Canada Could Top $125

Nintendo switch 2 bundle.

Update April 8, 2025: A Nintendo spokesperson told iPhone in Canada in a statement, “we have nothing further to share at this time,” when asked about Canadian MSRP on Switch 2 games.

Yesterday Nintendo released full details for the Switch 2 and besides the update, the prices are up from before, not just for the console itself but for games as well.

The Nintendo Switch 2 system arrives June 5 with a suggested retail price of $629.99 in Canada. The bundle with Mario Kart World is $699.99 in Canada, which is $70 more. For comparison, the current OLED Switch bundle with Mario Kart 8 is $529.99. An upgrade to the new Switch 2 and Mario Kart World will cost $170 more.

Now, how much will premium Nintendo Switch 2 games cost in Canada? We can take a look at the Nintendo USA website as it states the pricing for Mario Kart World as $79.99 USD for the digital version (the Canadian site doesn’t list CAD MSRP). This price after today’s exchange rate works out to $112 in Canada, which is pretty expensive and will likely push people to buy the bundle to save on the new game.

Physical copies will be $90 USD, which works out to $126 CAD after exchange rates. That is not cheap by any means, and definitely shocking to most casual gamers.

The Nintendo Switch 2 enhances its predecessor’s hybrid design, functioning as both a handheld and docked console. It features a larger 7.9-inch LCD screen with HDR and a 120Hz refresh rate, supporting 1080p in handheld mode and up to 4K at 60 fps when docked, though it lacks an OLED option.

The new Joy-Con 2 controllers attach magnetically, are larger with bigger buttons and sticks, and include an optical sensor for mouse-like functionality in compatible games, plus a “C button” to activate the GameChat feature—a Discord-like voice and video chat system with a built-in noise-canceling microphone.

There’s backwards compatibility with most original Switch games, enhanced editions of select titles, plus there’s spatial 3D sound, a redesigned dock with a fan, and accessibility options like button customization.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will kick off on April 9, 2025. Are you ready to open your wallet for the Nintendo Switch 2 this summer?

Premium games for the original Nintendo were $40 – $50 US. With inflation that is $120 – $150 US today.
Games back then were made by three people. Today, popular games need 300+ developers to be made.

I'm unsure why 300+ developers are "needed"… The characters are premade, the assets are premade, the game engine is premade, the game design is premade, the sound design is premade.

ya and a popular game selling thousands of copies was a success, now games are selling millions. They are making more money now than they ever have

With tax that brings the physical version of the game up to roughly $146 canadian which is roughly $54 more expensive than a Switch 1 game. No one has that sort of money in this economy and I just can't see this selling as well as they hope it will. What I do know well though is that no parents will be buying the switch2 and game for their kids at these prices, next to no one an afford it.

Nintendo can go fk themselves! I've owned every single Nintendo system from the start with the NES as a kid, this will now be the first Nintendo system I do not buy. These game prices are absurd and beyond disgusting, and blatant greed. Goodbye Nintendo, it was fun while it lasted.
