Build Your Way into Spring: LEGO Sets That Double as Décor

Lego spring ideas 1.

With spring in full swing, it’s a great time to freshen up your home—and LEGO has some surprising options to do just that. We recently had the chance to go hands-on with two standout sets sent our way from LEGO: the Vincent van Gogh – Sunflowers and LEGO Botanicals Flower Arrangement. Both offer a relaxing building experience, while also double as cool home decor once completed.

LEGO Art: Vincent van Gogh – Sunflowers

This LEGO Art set reimagines Van Gogh’s iconic Sunflowers painting as a 3D brick-built wall display. With 2,615 pieces, it may sound intimidating, but our family’s in-house junior LEGO expert had it built in from morning to afternoon over a couple of days.

Here’s the original van Gogh classic below. Take a look at this then compare it to the fine details from the LEGO build. It’s pretty impressive:

The finished piece will get visitors talking and stir conversation. We mounted it on the wall (no wall anchor needed as we had a centred stud), and on sunny days, the vivid yellows and layered textures really transform the room. The tiny tile with Van Gogh’s signature at the bottom is a subtle but important detail that ties the whole display together. It’s even earned the ultimate praise in our household: wife-approved.

The set features 16 sunflowers with adjustable petals, a removable frame, and a hanger piece on the back for easy display. The set documents have a QR code that links to a podcast diving into Van Gogh’s work and creative inspiration, offering a bonus layer to the set. This set was created in collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Friends were impressed with this set right away after seeing it and were surprised it was LEGO.

Here’s what it looks like after being hung on the wall:

As for the accompanying LEGO Art Podcast, it was recorded at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam beside the original Sunflowers painting. Host Jack Gardner Vaa talks with Nienke Bakker, a senior curator at the museum, and LEGO designer Stijn Oom about Vincent van Gogh’s life, legacy, and the creation of the LEGO Art Sunflowers set, for over an hour. It’s cool listening to the podcast while you’re building the set as you learn just how much detail they put into the set.

The LEGO Vincent van Gogh Sunflower set comes in at $259.99 CAD, which is definitely an investment. If you’re looking for an art piece to go on the wall at home or in the office, this one is a classic that’s fun to build and will definitely brighten up any room for spring.

LEGO Botanicals: Flower Arrangement

Next up is the LEGO Botanicals Flower Arrangement, which packs 1,161 pieces into a vibrant bouquet that’s far more than just decorative—it’s a build that lets your inner florist come to life.

This one didn’t take long to assemble, though lining up the petals just right takes some careful attention (especially if you have large hands), and just need to repeat the flower builds two to three times. The end result is a colourful arrangement that contains camellia, peonies, hydrangeas, baby’s breath, ranunculus, bouvardia and lilies, all displayed in a white pedestal vase.

We placed ours on the dining table, and it instantly became the centrepiece of the room. Best of all? No watering needed (keeping plants alive is the bain of my existence)—and it looks just as fresh from every angle. You’d be surprised at how so many people have no idea this set was LEGO until they went up super close.

Each flower head can be rearranged or even swapped with elements from other LEGO Botanicals sets, so you can remix your bouquet whenever inspiration strikes. Whether you’re gifting it for Mother’s Day or just want to brighten up your own space, this zero-maintenance floral display makes a perfect seasonal update.

The Botanicals Flower Arrangement costs $139.99 CAD on LEGO’s website. It’s not exactly cheap, but given how this can be a pretty neat centrepiece (if you’re okay with LEGO), it’s a fun build that you’ll spend quite a bit of time on to tweak it and make it perfect. If you’re into LEGO flower sets, other flowers can also be added to this build.

A Creative Way to Welcome Spring

LEGO’s Botanicals and Art series offer a refreshing way to bring the feeling of spring indoors (especially after a long dreary winter in BC). Whether you’re displaying a timeless van Gogh masterpiece or assembling a custom bouquet, these builds are fun, relaxing, and add some fun personality to your space. Plus, they make some cool gifts for plant-lovers and art fans alike.
