Tariff Pause Boosts Nintendo’s Switch 2 Launch Plans in U.S.

Nintendo is strategically leveraging the recent 90-day suspension of U.S. tariffs to optimize the launch of its highly anticipated Switch 2 console, scheduled for June 5, 2025, as noted by Bloomberg.

This temporary reprieve provides the Japanese gaming giant with a crucial window to enhance production and distribution efforts, aiming to meet the substantial demand in the U.S. market, which accounts for over a third of its sales.

In response to the tariff suspension, Nintendo has intensified its manufacturing operations in Vietnam, a key production hub for the Switch 2. The company is expediting shipments to the U.S. to ensure ample availability at launch.

Despite the temporary relief from tariffs, the Switch 2 is set to debut at a retail price of $450 in the U.S., a notable increase from the original Switch’s launch price of $300 in 2017. This price adjustment reflects rising production costs and the incorporation of enhanced features in the new model.
