Telus Unveils ‘GameRx’ to Tackle Gaming Burnout and Boost Wellness

Telus recently launched a new online platform called GameRx, aimed at helping Canadians use video games to improve their mental and physical wellbeing.
The website, which debuted last week, gives evidence-based suggestions for video games that can support areas like stress relief, focus, memory, mobility, and loneliness. The goal is to help break the stigma that gaming is just a waste of time and show how it can be used in healthy and productive ways.
“What excites me most is seeing how gaming has transformed into this incredible tool for wellness and personal growth. We’re not just talking about entertainment anymore—we’re seeing real impacts on mental health, stress relief and building social connections,” said Dwayne Benefield, Chief Product Officer at Telus.
“That’s why we created GameRx to empower Canadians to get the most out of their gaming while creating healthy digital habits. And here’s what makes it special: whether you’re a competitive player or casual gamer, we’ve designed it to help everyone enhance their overall wellbeing,” he said.

The idea comes at a time when mental health in Canada is declining. According to the Telus Mental Health Index (2024), 37% of Canadians are now at high mental health risk—the worst result since 2020. Meanwhile, the Telus Gaming Survey (2025) found that over one-third of Canadians use gaming to cope with life challenges. Almost half believe gaming can improve health and encourage connection and diversity.
The site allows visitors to choose their wellness goals—like reducing stress or improving focus—and get matched with video game types that can help. For example, puzzle games are recommended for people feeling overwhelmed, as they offer small wins and mental breaks.
“There’s some stigma that has developed around gaming. In reality, many people game in a way that reduces stress, introduces them to new people and is a healthy part of their lifestyle. In fact, the gaming industry is now larger than the movie and music industries combined,” said Dr. Matthew Chow, Chief Mental Health Officer at Telus Health.
GameRx is available at GameRx.ca in English, with a French version launching later this month.
