Apple’s Foldable iPhone to Use OLED Panels Supplied by Samsung

Apple’s long-rumoured foldable iPhone is reportedly set to use OLED panels supplied by Samsung Display exclusively.
This is according to a recent report from Business Korea. It’s claimed that Apple has chosen Samsung Display as the sole supplier of its foldable display panel due to the company’s “technological edge in minimizing screen creases.” The report goes on to quote an insider with reported knowledge on the matter, “For Apple, which prioritizes quality over price when selecting component suppliers, Samsung was the only viable choice.
It’s an interesting choice being made by Apple. The iPhone maker typically sources components and establishes a supply chain from multiple suppliers when developing its devices. In the past, the company has leveraged Samsung Display, LG Display, and BOE Technology.
Apple has yet to officially make any kind of formal statement as to whether the foldable iPhone is in development. However, over the years, there have been enough credible reports to indicate that a folding iPhone will indeed hit the market.
It’s believed that the devices will feature a book-style fold, offering a 7.8-inch crease-free inner display. A 5.5-inch outer panel is also believed to be supported. Other noteworthy features include the return of Touch ID in the form of a fingerprint scanner on the side of the device as Face ID will not be supported. The device is also believed to support a dual-lens rear camera array, and a front-facing camera available the device is folded and unfolded.
Earlier reports claim that the supposed foldable iPhone may not hit the mass production phase until 2026. That’s according to analyst Jeff Pu, who suspects the devices will enter the New Product Introduction (NPI) phase at Foxconn next year. Adding to that, Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the device could retail for more than $2,000 US (about $2,862 CAD) when it reaches the market.
