Apple Adds All Intel-Powered Mac minis to Vintage and Obsolete Devices List

Apple has updated the list of vintage and obsolete devices to include all Intel-powered Mac mini devices. Additionally, the company has added an older iPhone to the list as well.

The Cupertino company routinely adds older devices to a growing list of vintage and obsolete products. As first reported by MacRumorsthe latest additions include the 2018 Mac mini, which includes an Intel Core i3 processor. The ‘Coffee Lake’ chip features 4-core and 6-core options as well as the Intel UHD Graphics 630.

Including the Mac mini (2018) on the vintage and obsolete list, Apple has now officially rounded out the list of all Intel-powered Mac mini devices. This device was the last remaining Intel model that had not received either label.

In addition to adding the Mac mini, Apple has also included the iPhone 6s to the list. The device, which first launched in 2015, was considered the entry-level device for the iPhone 6 series. Apple continued to readily support and offer the iPhone 6s until 2018. It featured the A9 chipset and was the first device to include Apple’s 3D Touch system. iPhone 6s was also the last product to include the 3.5mm headphone jack prior to transitioning to Lightning cable support for wired-in earbuds.

Per Apple’s definition, a device is given the label of ‘vintage’ after five years since it was last distributed on the market. Vintage devices can still be supported for repairs by  Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers (AASPs). After seven years of the device being taken off the market, the device is then given the ‘obsolete’ label. At this point, it’s unlikely that Apple’s retail locations and AASPs are able to provide repairs as parts are no longer provided by Apple.
