Google Offers Free Gemini Advanced for Students—But Not in Canada

Gemini students advanced.

Google is giving students free access to its top AI tools (Gemini Advanced and NotebookLM Plus) and bonus cloud storage—but only in the U.S. for now.

Students who sign up before June 30, 2025, can access the offer through to the end of spring 2026 finals. That’s over one year of free Gemini Advanced for students, which is not a bad offer at all.

This limited-time offer gives students access to 2TB of Google cloud storage and powerful AI tools, including Gemini 2.5 Pro and Veo 2. It includes Gemini Advanced features like Deep Research, Gemini Live, Canvas, and video generation with Veo 2; NotebookLM Plus with expanded access to Audio Overviews and other features; built-in Gemini support across Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides; and Whisk, a creative experimental tool from Google Labs that lets users generate images and videos from text and image prompts.

The catch? The offer isn’t available in Canada. Students in eligible regions can visit Google’s website to sign up for the Google One AI Premium plan and start using the tools for free.

Gemini Advanced costs $26.99/month in Canada so this is worth $324 CAD for students in the U.S. Hopefully this offer might be extended to Canadian post secondary students in the future.

This offer from Google seems to be in response to OpenAI’s recent freebie, which offered students in the U.S. and Canada free access to ChatGPT Plus for two months (worth $27.99 CAD per month), an offer that’s still available.
