Google, Apple Close to Integrating Gemini AI into iPhones
According to a report by Bloomberg, Google and Apple are close to finalizing an agreement to integrate Google’s advanced AI model, Gemini, into Apple’s iPhone ecosystem.

The collaboration aims to enhance the capabilities of Apple’s digital assistant, Siri, by leveraging Gemini’s generative AI features.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai disclosed during a U.S. Department of Justice antitrust trial that discussions with Apple are progressing, with hopes to conclude the deal by mid-2025 and implement the integration by the year’s end.
Meanwhile, Apple has already announced plans to integrate OpenAI’s ChatGPT into its upcoming iOS 18 update, expected later this year. Additionally, Apple is reportedly in talks with Anthropic to include its Claude AI model, further diversifying the AI options available to users.
Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, hinted at the possibility of integrating Google’s Gemini AI during a post-keynote session at WWDC 2024. He emphasized Apple’s commitment to providing users with choices among various AI models to enhance their experience.
The integration of Gemini into Apple’s devices would allow Siri to handle more complex queries and tasks, leveraging Gemini’s capabilities in natural language processing and content generation. This move is part of Apple’s initiative to offer a more personalized and context-aware user experience through its Apple Intelligence feature.

While Apple is developing its own on-device AI tools, the inclusion of cloud-based models like Gemini and ChatGPT indicates a hybrid approach to AI integration.
The potential collaboration between Google and Apple comes amid increasing regulatory scrutiny over tech giants’ market practices. During the antitrust trial, Pichai argued that the Department of Justice’s proposed remedies could hinder innovation and investment in search technologies.
