Apple May Alter iPhone Release Cycle with iPhone 18 in 2027
Apple is set to alter its traditional iPhone release cycle by launching the base iPhone 18 in the first half of 2027, approximately 6 months after the anticipated release of the iPhone 18 Pro models.

According to veteran analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via MacRumors), Apple plans to introduce a staggered release strategy beginning in 2026. The iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and a new foldable model are expected to debut in the second half of 2026, followed by the standard iPhone 18 and an updated iPhone 18e in the first half of 2027.
This approach is designed to mitigate the “marketing gap” created by competitors, particularly in China, who often release flagship devices earlier in the year.
The revised timeline also allows Apple to manage its expanding product lineup more efficiently. By staggering releases, the company can allocate resources more effectively and maintain focused marketing efforts for each device. This strategy is expected to accommodate a growing lineup that includes the Pro, Air (Slim), foldable, and standard models
The upcoming iPhone 18 series is rumored to feature significant technological advancements. The Pro models may introduce under-display Face ID, eliminating the need for a visible notch and providing a more seamless display experience. Additionally, a variable aperture camera system is anticipated, offering users enhanced control over photography settings.
Apple’s foldable iPhone, expected to launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models, is rumored to adopt a book-style design with a 5.7-inch screen when closed and nearly 8-inch display when open. This device aims to compete with existing foldable smartphones by offering a seamless, crease-free display and incorporating Face ID technology.

The iPhone 18 lineup is also expected to benefit from Apple’s in-house A20 chip, built on TSMC’s advanced 2nm process. This chip is projected to deliver improved performance and energy efficiency. Furthermore, the devices may feature Apple’s second-generation 5G modem, supporting ultra-fast mmWave connectivity
