Sony has officially introduced TeamLFG, the latest addition to the PlayStation Studios family. Emerging from an incubation project within Bungie, this new internal studio is set to develop innovative multiplayer experiences.

TeamLFG, headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, comprises a diverse group of industry veterans and newcomers. The team includes developers with experience on renowned titles such as Destiny, Halo, League of Legends, Fortnite, Roblox, and Rec Room.

The studio’s name, “TeamLFG,” stands for “Looking For Group,” reflecting its mission to create games where players can find friendship, community, and a sense of belonging. According to a statement on the PlayStation Blog, the team is passionate about developing action-based gameplay and richly social virtual worlds.

TeamLFG’s inaugural project is described as a team-based action game that draws inspiration from various genres, including fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and a unique “frog-type” classification. Set in a lighthearted, comedic world within a new mythic science-fantasy universe, the game aims to offer players an engaging and memorable experience.

While specific details about the game’s title, platforms, and release date have not been disclosed, TeamLFG emphasizes its commitment to involving the community in the development process through early access playtests.

The formation of TeamLFG follows Sony’s acquisition of Bungie in 2022 for $3.6 billion. Initially, Bungie operated as an independent, multi-platform studio under Sony’s umbrella. However, subsequent integration efforts led to the transfer of certain Bungie employees to Sony Interactive Entertainment.

The move also aligns with Sony’s broader strategy to expand its portfolio of live service games.
