Telus PureFibre Internet Coming to 90% of Red Deer Homes

Telus announced this week its PureFibre internet will soon be available to 90% of homes in Red Deer, Alberta, thanks to a $168 million investment from F3 Networks.

That means faster internet speeds, better reliability, and improved access for things like remote work, school, video calls, and streaming. Unlike older copper wiring, fibre gives equal upload and download speeds, which is a big deal if you’re gaming, doing Zoom calls, or sharing big files.

Construction on the fibre-optic network will roll out over the next two years. Residents in Red Deer will start seeing notices from F3 Networks and their contractor, AFL, as work gets underway. Once it’s done, Telus will offer services like gigabit internet, Optik TV, and smart home tech.

“We’re incredibly proud to work alongside F3 Networks, AFL and the City of Red Deer to bring Telus PureFibre services to the community,” said Shazia Zeb Sobani, Vice-president Customer Solutions Delivery West at Telus.

“Having access to this kind of technology will make a real difference in people’s day-to-day lives—whether it’s kids doing homework, small businesses growing online or families staying connected,” added Red Deer Mayor Ken Johnston.

F3 Networks says the upgrade will help the city keep up with the demands of modern life, from healthcare to online business. Telus also plans to use the same fibre infrastructure to power its 5G wireless service, making it the backbone of future tech in the region, with the project set to lay down over 400 kilometres of fibre cable.

Earlier today Telus announced its Q1 earnings, showing a slowdown in wireless growth, but still huge gains in net income.

Yet, oddly, no mention of price to home consumers. 🤔🙄

Unfortunately 2 little to late for some. My buddy lives in north Red deer, he's had telus for 20+ years, cell/tv/internet/security. He's already canceled his cell and switched to Bell, and yesterday he went on Costco. Ca and bought Starlink for $499.99. Once that is installed he's completely canceling the rest of his Telus services as he'snot locked into any contracts. When his family moved into their new house in 2005 the house had fiber optik and telus said back then the area he bought in was getting fiber in the community. ..fast forward 20 years and still they don't have it. He dislikes Musk, but he's s given up on Telus and not waiting another 2 years for hope and dreams.
