Apple Maps Gets Upgraded With Expert Insights and Reviews

Apple Maps users in the U.S. can now search for Michelin-starred restaurants, Green Star restaurants, Bib Gourmand picks, and Michelin Key hotels, according to a press release from Apple.
The new feature is available starting today, with additional countries expected to be added later.
The update improves Apple Maps by integrating rankings and insights from expert sources. Upcoming updates will also include content from The Infatuation for restaurant recommendations and Golf Digest for golf course rankings, with more partners to follow.
Apple says the new place cards will show expert ratings, descriptions, and photos. Select hotels will also offer booking directly within Apple Maps. Restaurant reservations through Michelin and tee time bookings through Supreme Golf will be added soon.
“Michelin Guide, The Infatuation, and Golf Digest are leading industry experts that consumers rely on for finding the best restaurants, hotels, and golf courses, and we’re excited to bring their valuable insights and accolades to our users in Apple Maps,” said David Dorn, Apple’s senior director of Internet Software and Services Product, in a statement. “These new integrations make Maps an even more useful and seamless resource for users to discover great new places whether in their hometown or traveling somewhere new.”
Users can find the information by using search filters or browsing curated guides from Michelin, The Infatuation, and Golf Digest in the Maps app. For now, these new features are only for the U.S., but hopefully will expand to Canada as part of the future expansion.
Right now, Apple Maps in Canada only has thumbs up/down ratings from users (debuted in 2021), and not third-party services. Google Maps, on the other hand, shows reviews from registered users with comments and photos. Apple Maps should add this functionality at some point.

This is a joke, right? Expert ratings/reviews from Foursquare, Yelp, or TripAdvisor maybe? 😆😆
You seem confused. Which part isn’t clear for you?
Apple Maps does have ratings from third party services in Canada. For example Yelp and OpenTable. This is in addition to the native thumbs up/down ratings. The author’s comment is not accurate about that.
