Apple Testing Eye-Scrolling Feature for Vision Pro, Says Report

Apple is reportedly developing a new eye-scrolling feature for its pricey Vision Pro headset, according to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

The feature would allow users to scroll through apps and content using only their eyes, expanding on the Vision Pro’s existing eye-tracking technology.

The capability is being tested as part of visionOS 3, the next version of the Vision Pro’s operating system, which is expected to be unveiled at Apple’s annual developer conference, WWDC, on June 9.

Currently, Vision Pro users look at objects and select them with a pinch gesture. The eye-scrolling upgrade would let users browse and interact even more hands-free. Sources familiar with the plans told Bloomberg that Apple intends to make the technology available across its own apps and provide tools for developers to add it to theirs.

The report says Apple continues to add features to the $4,995 CAD Vision Pro despite limited sales, aiming to show off the device’s capabilities.

Right now, it’s possible to use eye tracking as part of Apple’s accessibility features for iPhone and iPad, which was part of an accessibility feature slate announced last spring.

We should find out more at WWDC when the keynote kicks off on June 9. Stay tuned.
