Meta Enhances Threads with New Personalization Features

Meta has introduced a series of updates to its Threads platform, aiming to provide users with a more personalized and controlled social media experience. The updates focus on user customization, content discovery, and interaction management.

Users can now add up to ten topics to their profiles, allowing others to discover shared interests directly from profile pages. Tapping on these topics leads to related discussions, facilitating easier connections with like-minded individuals. Additionally, when creating posts, users receive prompts to include trending or previously used topics, helping to increase post visibility and engagement.

Threads now allows users to set their preferred feed—such as the Following feed or any custom feed—as the default view upon opening the app. This feature ensures that users consistently see content from accounts they follow or topics they care about. Furthermore, users can limit replies and quote-posts to their followers, reducing unwanted interactions and enhancing control over their content.

The platform has introduced a “Media” tab, providing a centralized space for users to access all their shared photos and videos. This addition simplifies media navigation for both content creators and their followers. Moreover, the video player has been upgraded with play, pause, and skip buttons, along with a more prominent progress bar, improving the overall viewing experience.

To enhance transparency, Threads has implemented an account status dashboard, enabling users to see when their content or accounts have violated platform rules. This dashboard details content that has been removed or deprioritized and allows users to appeal penalties they believe were issued in error.

In terms of monetization, Threads has begun testing video advertisements within user feeds, marking a step towards integrating revenue-generating features into the platform.
