The Last of Us Season 2 Finale Brought in 3.7 Million Cross-Platform Viewers

This past weekend, HBO aired the Season 2 finale of The Last of US, the series adaptation of the hit PlayStation franchise. According to HBO, the finale brought in 3.7 million cross-platform viewers in the U.S. alone.
What makes this stat especially interesting to note is that there appears to be a significant drop-off from the premiere of the follow-up season of The Last of Us. On April 13th, Season 2 of the series began airing every Sunday on HBO (and Crave in Canada). According to a recent report from Deadline, it was reported that the premiere brought in 5.3 million viewers. HBO claims that there’s room for significant growth, however. Given that the Season 2 finale aired during the Memorial Day weekend, the company expects viewers to catch up throughout the week, boosting that number.
According to HBO, The Last of Us Season 2 draws in nearly 37 million global viewers per episode. To put things into context and show the growth of the series, the series’ Season 1 premiere generated 32 million viewers in 90 days following the original air date of January 15, 2023.
Since Season 1 ended on March 12, 2023, The Last of Us has exceeded 90 million viewers in total. However, there’s yet to be an episode that has broken the record set by the Season 1 finale. When the first season ended, 8.2 million viewers tuned in to see the conclusion of the inaugural season.
The Last of Us is based on the critically acclaimed series from PlayStation Studios’ Naughty Dog. Developed by creator Neil Druckmann, The Last of Us is adapted in part thanks to Craig Mazin, who serves as showrunner and creator alongside Druckmann. The series stars Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Kaitlyn Dever, Gabriel Luna, Isabela Merced, and Young Mazino. The series largely follows Joel, played by Pascal, and Ellie, played by Ramsey. In a post-apocalyptic world, the duo struggles to survive while maintaining a pseudo father-daughter relationship. Season 2 of The Last of Us, picks up five years after the conclusion of the first season. The duo face enormous consequences for what occurs during the Season 1 finale, escalating in a quest for revenge and retribution.
In Canada, the entire series of The Last of Us can be streamed on Crave.
