Sony Drops PlayStation 5 Pro Price in Canada for the First Time

After launching in Canada last fall, Sony’s PlayStation 5 Pro has now seen its first discount.

Amazon.ca has the console on sale for $889.96, which is a $70 discount. If you’ve been waiting for a sale, now is the time. You do know that Father’s Day is coming next month, right?

The PlayStation 5 Pro, launched on November 7, 2024, is a mid-generation upgrade to the PS5, featuring a 45% faster GPU, advanced ray tracing, and AI-driven PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) for enhanced 4K and 8K gaming.

It includes a 2TB SSD, Wi-Fi 7, and a PS5 Pro Game Boost feature that improves performance for over 8,500 PS4 and select PS5 titles. Priced at $959.99 MSRP, it lacks a built-in disc drive, requiring an optional $100 add-on for physical media playback, which is an extra ouch.

They said the same thing about the Switch 2 price and the pre orders sold out in under an hour. The PS5 Pro is selling better than the Series X 2TB at my work and the EB Games near my work. Yes the numbers are still small, but more people are buying it then you think.

That's a hard pass for this guy.

Ya that's way to expensive to be honest. Even the regular PS5 is way over priced in my opinion. Ya you get more of the bells and whistles but $1100+ after taxes and possible environmental fee. And that without the media pack. Come on now.

Do you think you can build a gaming pc similar to the ps5 Pro for under $1000? I don't think so.

With the current tariff situation, the 2TB Series X is $880, which is only $10 less at the new PS Pro sale price. I do agree that the Xbox would be a better value as it already comes with the optical drive, but very few people use it. At my work, we sold more PS5 physical games than Series S/X. Same when I talk to Game Stop (now EB Games again🤦). But the Xbox optical drive is lacking in features. No Dolby Atmos support, supports lower capacity game discs, no 3D (apparently that is still a thing), and more compared to the PS drive.
