Nintendo Spotlights How Switch 2 GameShare Works Ahead of Launch

Nintendo has released a brand new video on the Nintendo Today app, this time highlighting the Switch 2‘s GameShare feature.
Navigating to the Nintendo Today app (or Reddit if you don’t have the app), you’ll find a brand new video to watch. The GameShare feature is given the spotlight as Nintendo shows off how a Switch 2-player can grant wireless access to a multiplayer game to those who may not own a copy of the game. GameShare lets Nintendo Switch 2 owners open up temporary access to a multiplayer game. Access can be transmitted to another Switch 2 or the original Nintendo Switch console.
In the video, a user is shown to be playing 51 Worldwide Games on Nintendo Switch 2. As the game is receiving a free Switch 2 upgrade on June 5th, coinciding with the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch, 51 Worldwide Games will support GameShare. The player is then prompted to choose the GameShare option.
If another player nearby wishes to use GameShare, they can navigate to the GameShare icon from the Nintendo Switch home menu. This then enables wireless transmission to the game. Once all players have connected to GameShare, the host on Nintendo Switch 2 can then create a local multiplayer session with a single owned copy of the game.
There are a few distinct advantages of using GameShare. The first is that even if the host is launching a local multiplayer session of a Nintendo Switch 2 game, those on the original Switch can still play on their hardware. The other advantage is that only the host on Switch 2 needs to own a copy of the eligible game.
Arguably, one of the most impressive advantages, as Nintendo points out, is the GameShare technology. Unlike what the initial perception may indicate, the GameShare feature doesn’t stream the game to Nintendo Switch consoles. It unlocks temporary access to the game, as if the player has purchased the title digitally.
