Nintendo Switch 2 Comes with a Screen Protector You Must Never Remove

Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 has a safety feature you’ll want to pay attention to before peeling off anything.

According to the official safety manual, the screen on the Switch 2 includes a protective film layer designed to stop shattered glass from scattering if the screen gets damaged. It looks like a removable layer—but you’re not supposed to peel it off.

Nintendo doesn’t say whether it’s replaceable. Removing it could make the screen more vulnerable or void your warranty, so it’s best to leave it alone.

There’s also a warning for people with pacemakers or other implanted medical devices: the console and Joy-Con 2 controllers use magnets and wireless tech. Nintendo advises keeping the system at least 15 cm (6 inches) away from medical implants and checking with a doctor before use. That’s pretty standard though and Apple similarly warns people about keeping the iPhone and MagSafe accessories away from your pacemakers.

Other useful details from the manual shared on Nintendo’s EU website (via famiboards):

  • Joy-Con 2 controllers connect magnetically — stickers or metal near the SL/SR buttons could weaken the grip.
  • The console and controllers use built-in lithium-ion batteries that must be charged at least once every six months or they may stop working.
  • Operating temperature is 5°C to 35°C — don’t use it in humid, dusty, or rapidly changing environments.

Just keep in mind: don’t peel the screen, and if you or someone nearby uses a pacemaker, keep the console at a safe distance.
