AirPods Just Got a Creator Mode at WWDC: What’s New

Apple has revealed new features coming to AirPods 4, AirPods 4 with ANC, and AirPods Pro 2 at WWDC that make it easier to record pro-level audio and control your iPhone camera—hands-free.

With a fall firmware update, creators will be able to record studio-quality vocals using their AirPods, even while walking or in noisy environments. The Voice Isolation feature helps cut out background sounds, letting your voice come through clearly. Apple says the H2 chip and beamforming mics deliver more natural-sounding voice texture during calls, FaceTime, or while using third-party recording apps like Webex or Voice Memos.

Also new: AirPods can act as a camera remote. If you’re filming yourself with your iPhone or iPad, just press and hold the AirPods stem to start or stop video recording in the Camera app—or compatible third-party apps, which is pretty neat. It’s a subtle but powerful upgrade for vloggers, dancers, singers, and anyone recording content solo.

These new AirPods features will work across iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and are currently available to developers. A public beta is coming next month, with a general release this fall alongside iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26.
