What’s New in Google Pixel’s June 2025 Drop: Android 16 + More
![]()
Google today announced the release of Android 16 and the June Pixel Feature Drop, bringing new features and improvements to enhance accessibility, customizability, and security on its devices.
Android 16 is finally on its way, rolling out first to Pixel devices starting today. This comes after Google released the first public beta for Android 16 earlier this year. Android 16 comes with Live Updates — dynamic, progress-tracking notifications for ride-share and delivery apps to rival Apple’s Live Activities, security improvements, support for hearing aids LE audio, and productivity enhancements for large-screen devices with a “desktop mode” coming later this year.
Google is also rolling out ecosystem-wide updates for Android, including RCS group chat features like custom icons and notification muting in Google Messages, AI-powered suggestions and tool recommendations in the Google Photos image editor, Emoji Kitchen for creating new emoji stickers with Gboard, and more.
Meanwhile, the June Pixel Drop brings a slew of exclusive features for Pixel devices. Here’s a look at what’s coming:
Pixel VIPs: Prioritize Your Inner Circle
The new Pixel VIPs widget lets you add your closest contacts to your home screen. With quick access to their contact details, recent communications, and preferences, staying connected has never been easier. Plus, VIPs get to bypass Do Not Disturb mode, ensuring you never miss an important message from them. The Pixel VIPs feature starts rolling out next week.
Custom Stickers in Gboard with Pixel Studio
Pixel Studio 1.4 introduces AI-powered sticker creation directly within Gboard. Whether you’re typing a message or browsing your camera roll, you can now generate personalized stickers using text prompts or photos. These stickers are saved under ‘My Projects’ and can be shared across messaging apps.
New Education Hub in the Camera App
The Pixel Camera app now features an education hub for those looking to improve their photography skills. This resource offers visual inspiration and step-by-step instructions for each shooting mode, helping you maximize your Pixel’s camera potential.
Expressive Captions: AI-Enhanced Accessibility
Expressive Captions, now available in Canada, uses AI to capture the tone, volume, and nuance of speech. This feature enhances accessibility by providing more context to captions, making them more expressive and engaging.
Android 16 and the June Pixel Feature Drop deliver a host of new features that not only enhance user experience but also position Google’s Pixel devices as strong competitors to Apple’s iOS. With improved accessibility, customization, and AI-powered tools, Pixel users have more reasons to stay loyal to the brand.
