Samsung One UI 8 Watch Update Brings New Health Metrics, Gemini AI

Samsung is turning up the heat on wearable health tech with its forthcoming One UI 8 Watch update, based on Wear OS 6. Slated to debut alongside the Galaxy Watch 8 series this summer, the upgrade brings a powerful lineup of health and wellness tools.

One UI 8 Watch introduces Bedtime Guidance, a personalized sleep coach that evaluates your sleep from the past three days—tracking your sleep pressure and circadian trends—to recommend ideal bedtimes. This feature adapts to lifestyle variations such as late nights or shift work, helping users establish consistent sleep routines.

The update also brings Vascular Load, a metric measuring stress on your cardiovascular system during sleep. By tracking how exercise, stress, or resting patterns affect your blood vessels, users gain a clearer picture of long-term heart health. Only Galaxy Watch Ultra and newer models support this feature.

A smart Running Coach is also in beta testing. Leveraging sensor data from your watch or phone, it evaluates fitness levels and tailors gradual training plans to enhance endurance while mitigating injury risk. Reports suggest it dynamically adapts guidance as your pace or stamina changes.

Samsung Health is adding an Antioxidant Index feature that measures carotenoid levels—nutrients found in colorful produce—using light sensors on your Galaxy Watch. Users obtain a quick reading by placing their thumb over the sensor. Results appear in Samsung Health, with feedback on whether levels are “adequate” or “low.”

Beyond health tracking, One UI 8 Watch enhances the overall interface. A new Now Bar—activated via a double‑pinch gesture—displays contextual info like media controls or fitness metrics right on the watch face. Shortcuts streamline usability by allowing users to pin frequently used apps directly to their home screen.

Lastly, Samsung will replace Google Assistant with Gemini, offering on-watch AI capabilities like email summarization, calendar adjustments, voice control with mute options, and hands‑free tasks from your wrist.

The One UI 8 Watch beta is launching to Galaxy Watch 5 and newer models—beginning in June/July and expanding to Watch 7 and Watch Ultra devices
