Next iPad Pro Could Feature Edge-to-Edge Notchless Display

Apple is said to be planning an iPad Pro redesign with ultra thin bezels using OLED chip on film technology for a more immersive screen experience, according to a MacRumors report citing Chinese social media platform Weibo.

Instant Digital, who has previously revealed accurate details such as the iPhone 14 Plus Yellow option and Apple Watch Ultra 2 strap design, believes that the iPad Pro could adopt a bezel thickness comparable to top Android tablets, enhancing visual immersion and maximizing display area.

This shift aligns with recent reports that Apple may implement chip‑on‑film display innovations like LG Innotek’s CoF technology and a new display driver chip from LX Semicon. Chip‑on‑film involves attaching essential components on a thin, flexible film that wraps around the display edge. This lets Apple shrink the visible border without changing the device’s footprint.

However, while thinning display borders sounds exciting, tablets require some bezel space for grip to avoid accidental touches. Even accessories and hand posture depend on borderline presence, so Apple must balance sleekness with usability. Current iPad Pro models already slimmed the border slightly, but the proposed next version appears to push limits further.

This design direction echoes Apple’s history of slendering bezels across product lines. Starting with its wearable devices and then iPhones, Apple used advanced molding techniques and thinner display borders. Now it appears ready to transfer the same design philosophy to its flagship tablets.

The technical upgrades are likely to appear in models beyond the upcoming M5 iPad Pro due later this year. Analyst Ming‑Chi Kuo indicates that M5‑powered iPad Pros will enter mass production in late 2025.

So while an M5 model may debut this fall, the ultra‑thin bezel design could launch with an M6 or M7 iPad next year.
