Samsung’s First Tri-Fold Phone Breaks Cover in New Leak

Samsung is gearing up for its next big Unpacked event next week, and while the spotlight is expected to shine on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and the Galaxy Z Flip FE, it looks like something even more exciting could be in store. A new leak has given us our first real glimpse at Samsung’s long-rumoured tri-fold foldable phone.
As spotted by the folks over at Android Authority, animation files hidden within the latest One UI 8 software build reveal what appears to be Samsung’s tri-fold flagship, possibly called the “Galaxy G Fold.”
According to the leak, the device features two inward-folding hinges — what’s commonly referred to as a “G-shaped” fold — similar to Samsung Display’s Flex G prototypes. This differs from foldables like Huawei’s Mate XT, which use a mix of inward and outward folding hinges in an “S-shaped” configuration.
The leaked animation, which relates to NFC positioning, offers an early look at the tri-fold’s design. It shows a three-panel rear setup, with the left-most panel likely housing a triple rear camera system in a familiar Galaxy Z Fold-style island. The middle panel appears to contain a cover display with a front-facing camera, while the right-most panel seems to be a plain rear section without a display.
Take a look at one of the animations below, courtesy of Android Authority:
Interestingly, the animation also suggests the two hinges are different sizes — likely to allow for a flatter fold without stressing the display. Samsung even includes a warning in the software, advising users not to fold the camera panel first to avoid damaging the device.
In the animation files, the device is referred to as “Multifold 7,” which may just be a codename. While it’s often called a “tri-fold,” it technically has two hinges and just two displays — not three — but “tri-fold” has stuck as the common term in the industry.
Samsung hasn’t confirmed anything about the device yet, so it’s worth taking this leak with a grain of salt. Still, with Unpacked just around the corner, it might not be long before we see this ambitious foldable unveiled.
Stay tuned for our coverage of Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event as it kicks off on July 9 at 10 a.m. ET / 7 a.m. PT.
