Starlink Now Has Over 500,000 Users in Canada

SpaceX’s Starlink now has more than 500,000 users across Canada, and for some, the service is proving essential in remote areas where traditional internet access doesn’t exist (via Tesla North).
One of those users is Syola Ikkidluak, a dog sledder and hunter from Iglulik, Nunavut. She relies on Starlink to stay in touch with her family while spending days out on the sea ice during hunting trips. “We are what we call Nunataligarjuk, close to the little islands out in the sea ice.” she said.
“Where we’re from, we’re so isolated,” she said in a video shared by Starlink. “Starlink has changed our lives out on the land.”
Ikkidluak explained that the satellite-based internet service is easy to use and has become a lifeline for some hunters who find themselves stranded. “I have seen and heard people being stuck out on the land, and they brought Starlink. And that was the only way they have communicated when they need help. It’s very easy to use. You just bring it out and hook it up, and it works.”
Starlink, run by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, is steadily expanding across rural and remote areas of Canada. Thanks to its simple setup and wide global coverage, the service is proving to be a game-changer—and in some cases, a lifesaver—for people living off the grid. For now, no other satellite network offers this level of connectivity.
Just over a year ago, Starlink announced it had reached 400,000 users in Canada. That increase of 100,000 in a year is a jump of 25% over that same period.
Right now, there’s a promo offering a $0 Standard Kit with 12-month residential service in select areas.
On July 8, SpaceX launched 28 more Starlink satellites into orbit from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The Falcon 9 rocket took off from Launch Complex 40, marking the 282nd Starlink mission so far. With this latest batch, SpaceX has now launched a total of 9,149 Starlink satellites.
