Pokémon TCG Pocket to Revamp Controversial Trading System July 29

Pokémon TCG Pocket is revamping its unpopular and obtuse trading system later this month. According to an in-game notification, an update will be arriving on July 29th and will streamline trading within the card-collecting game.
In Pokémon TCG Pocket, players are able to trade collected cards with other players. The feature was first introduced to the game back in January. While a highly requested feature at the time, the free-to-play mobile game put more than a few hoops to jump through when trading one card with another.
Starting on July 29th, Pokémon TCG Pocket will be dropping most of the systems that are part of the current trading system. For instance, the game’s trading currency is being removed from the game. Instead, players will have to use another in-game currency called ‘Shinedust’, which is used for cosmetic upgrades, to trade.
Pokémon TCG Pocket will be making adjustments to Shinedust to compensate for its new use in the game. Shinedust earned from duplicate cards will be doubled as of the update. Additionally, players can exchange their Trade Tokens for other currencies, whether Shinedust or hourglasses.
Exchange rates, according to the game, are as follows:
- 1 x pack hourglass = 1 x trade token (maximum 60 exchanges)
- 10 x Shinedust = 1 x trade token (unlimited exchanges)
- 100 x Shinedust = 10 x trade tokens (unlimited exchanges)
- 1000 x Shinedust = 100 x trade tokens (unlimited exchanges)
Additionally, players will no longer be required to have extra cards to be consumed in order to trade a card. The game is also introducing a new wishlist function that makes it easier for players to indicate which cards they’d like to trade for, completing their personal collections.
A Pokémon Presents live stream is occurring on July 22. It’s expected that new news regarding the game will be discussed, alongside other Pokémon news.
