Microsoft Lens App for iOS, Android to Shut Down Next Month
Microsoft has confirmed that it will be retiring the Microsoft Lens mobile app for both iOS and Android, starting next month, as reported by BleepingComputer.

The retirement process begins on September 15, 2025. At that point, users will see the retirement phase initiated. About a month later, mid‑October, Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store will disable new downloads of Microsoft Lens. By mid‑November, the app will be removed entirely from both stores.
Users will still be able to use the app for a short while. But starting December 15, 2025, creating new scans in Microsoft Lens will no longer be possible. Existing scans saved in the “MyScans” folder will remain accessible—but there will be no further updates or support for the app.
Microsoft recommends users transition to the Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile app, which includes integrated scanning features. The Copilot app stores new scans in a “My Creations” area and continues to support cloud storage via OneDrive.
However, the company warns that several features users enjoy in Microsoft Lens, such as direct saving to OneNote, Word, or PowerPoint, scanning business cards into OneNote, Immersive Reader integration, and read‑aloud functionality, are not yet available in Copilot. Microsoft has indicated that it will continue developing and improving Copilot’s scanning capabilities.
Microsoft Lens has been around since the Windows Phone era. First launched as Office Lens in 2014, the app was expanded to iOS and Android shortly after, and later rebranded to Microsoft Lens in 2021. It has earned praise for its easy conversion of photos into editable documents and clean scanning of whiteboards, printed and handwritten text.

With over 50 million user downloads on Android and nearly 136,000 App Store ratings, the Microsoft Lens app will no longer be availalbe to dowload from mid‑October.
