Bell Teams Up With Perplexity to Hand Out $300 AI Tool for Free [Update]

Bell is teaming up with AI-powered search engine Perplexity to give certain customers a year of free access to the AI search tool’s premium version, Perplexity Pro—normally worth about $300. The deal makes Bell the exclusive telecom partner for Perplexity in Canada.
Eligible Bell Mobility customers will start receiving redemption codes in the coming days, while Bell Internet customers will get access in fall 2025. Codes will be sent by email, text, and through MyBell accounts.
Perplexity Pro brings AI-powered search with real-time answers, citations, and access to major AI models like OpenAI’s latest GPT-5, Claude 4.0, and Gemini 2.5 Pro. It also includes 600 daily pro searches, unlimited file uploads, image generation, and early access to Perplexity’s new Comet browser.
“Artificial intelligence tools are fundamentally reshaping how we interact with information,” said Blaik Kirby, Group President, Consumer and Small Business at Bell, in an issued statement to iPhone in Canada. “Through our partnership with Perplexity, we’re giving millions of Canadians the opportunity to experience the best of AI – powered by Bell’s award-winning networks, wherever they are.”
“Accurate, trustworthy answers are essential to millions of decisions that Canadians make every day, and Bell’s commitment to customer-centric innovation make it a natural partner to provide valuable technology that improves daily life for all customers,” said Ryan Foutty, VP of Business at Perplexity.
Perplexity AI, founded in 2022 by Aravind Srinivas (OpenAI), Denis Yarats (DeepMind), Johnny Ho (Google Brain), and Andy Konwinski (Meta, Quora), is backed by major investors including Jeff Bezos, Nvidia, SoftBank Vision Fund, IVP, and New Enterprise Associates, along with AI pioneers Yann LeCun (Meta) and Andrej Karpathy (OpenAI, Tesla). The company has raised over $1.5 billion, reaching a huge valuation of $18 billion as of July 2025.
The launch comes ahead of the back-to-school season, with Bell saying the offer will help Canadians with research, content creation, and staying organized. We’ve reached out to Bell for clarification on what the eligibility requirements are to get this freebie.
Update August 11, 2025: A Bell spokeswoman told iPhone in Canada in a statement, “Perplexity Pro will be available at no extra cost to Bell Mobility customers on Voice and Data plans only. Codes will be sent via email and text, and will also be available in their MyBell.”
“Bell Internet customers will have access starting in fall 2025, with more details to be shared closer to availability,” said the spokeswoman.
