ChatGPT Mobile App Revenue Surges Past $2 Billion, Crushes Competition

ChatGPT’s mobile app has crossed a staggering $2 billion USD (about $2.76 billion CAD) in global consumer spending since launching in May 2023, according to new data from app intelligence provider Appfigures (via TechCrunch). That’s roughly 30 times the combined lifetime spending of its main mobile rivals, including Claude, Copilot, and Grok.
So far in 2025, ChatGPT’s iOS and Android apps have generated $1.35 billion, a massive 673% increase over the $174 million they made during the same period last year. That works out to nearly $193 million per month, compared to $25 million a month in 2024. The app’s closest competitor, Grok, has brought in just $25.6 million this year — around 1.9% of ChatGPT’s total.
Appfigures estimates ChatGPT’s lifetime global revenue per install at $2.91, compared to $2.55 for Claude, $0.75 for Grok, and $0.28 for Copilot. In the U.S., that figure climbs to $10, with the country accounting for 38% of ChatGPT’s lifetime app revenue. Germany ranks second at 5.3%.
The download numbers are just as lopsided. ChatGPT has been installed an estimated 690 million times worldwide, far outpacing Grok’s 39.5 million. India leads in lifetime installs with 13.7%, followed by the U.S. with 10.3%. Just this year, the app has been downloaded 318 million times — 2.8x more than the same period last year — with iOS downloads hitting nearly 30 million in June alone.
The milestone comes just weeks after ChatGPT surpassed 700 million active weekly users, with OpenAI now working on further monetizing the chatbot through in-chat shopping features. With monthly app downloads now averaging around 45 million globally, it’s clear ChatGPT’s mobile dominance isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

Proving time and time again that people are stupid and easily influenced by hype especially AI hype. When I wrote this, ChatGPT said "you are absolutely right".
