Grok 4 Goes Free, Brings Its Viral Photo-to-Video Feature to All
Grok 4, the latest version of xAI’s chatbot, is now free for everyone — with limits.
“The free tier allows a small number of queries per day. Beyond that requires subscription,” said Elon Musk. Paid plans include SuperGrok at $300 per year and SuperGrok Heavy at $3,000 per year. The free version of Grok lets you have five requests every 12 hours.
The update also brings a new Grok Imagine tool to the masses, now free for a limited time, that can turn any photo on your phone into a video in about 17 seconds. On 𝕏, users can long-press on any image to instantly generate a video.
xAI says Grok 4 is available worldwide, with an Auto mode that automatically routes complex questions to Grok 4, and an Expert mode for those who want to always use the most advanced model. For now, the company is rolling out “generous usage limits” so more people can try it.
Just two days earlier, xAI announced upgrades to Grok 4’s PDF processing, allowing it to handle files hundreds of pages long with improved recognition and comprehension. The feature works on both web and mobile apps. A Mac and Windows version of Grok is not available yet, despite Musk promising it was coming back in February of this year.
The free move follows last week’s release of ChatGPT 5 to all users, adding more competition in the AI assistant space. The free version of ChatGPT has higher limits for users, however.
