Original iPhone Fetches $122,000 at Auction After CT-Scan Grading

LCG Auctions has once again set a benchmark in the vintage tech market. A factory-sealed 2007 Apple iPhone 4GB First Release sold for $88,810 US (about $122,455 CAD), the highest price paid for this rare model in nearly two years.

The 4GB iPhone is considered one of the rarest Apple collectibles, with only a handful ever appearing on the market. One example made headlines in summer 2023 when it sold for a record $190,373 US ($262,494 CAD), drawing coverage from major U.S. media outlets.

This latest sale stands out for another reason: it was the first time a first-generation iPhone was professionally graded using advanced CT-scan authentication technology. The phone was authenticated, graded, and sealed in July 2025 by Collectible Grading Services in partnership with X-Ray Authority, with certification labels and certificates of authenticity included. The process allowed for a non-invasive scan of the sealed device to verify its contents and originality (in other words, to make sure a brick wasn’t inside).

The phone came straight from its original owner, who included a notarized letter proving its history, boosting its authenticity and value as a top-tier collectible.

The original iPhone sale was part of the 2025 LCG Auctions Summer Premier Auction that closed Sunday night with a record-breaking $850,202 US in total sales for the company.

In a way, there is a brick inside. iPhone that old probably can’t power on and the battery can’t take the charge, so it is practically bricked
