Microsoft has announced that Game Pass Core and Standard subscribers can now also test cloud streaming and PC game access via Xbox Insider, starting today.
Until now the cloud gaming feature was reserved for Ultimate subscribers but this update removes that barrier for those on the more affordable tiers.
But now, members of the Xbox Insider program who subscribe to Game Pass Core or Standard can also take advantage of Xbox Cloud Gaming in beta and play a broader selection of titles across more devices. To get started Xbox suggests signing up for the Insider program then visiting xbox dot com slash play or using the Xbox app on your device.
Beyond console cloud gaming, the update introduces PC versions of select titles to Core and Standard subscribers. That means if you join the Insider program you gain access for the first time to certain PC games via the Xbox app or on Windows handhelds
Microsoft calls this move part of a broader strategy to focus on flexibility convenience and putting the player first. Expansion of Cloud Gaming to lower tiers and access to PC versions supports that ambition. Analysts point to prior hints at an affordable standalone streaming offering as signs that more such options might be on the way.
At launch new features are available to Insiders only. Nonetheless, anyone eager to stream Game Pass games on mobile Phones Tablets Web browsers smart TVs or Windows handhelds should consider enrolling in the Xbox Insider program to try the update early.
