WhatsApp iOS and Mac Security Bug Exploited by Hackers Now Patched
WhatsApp has patched a security bug that could have let hackers mess with linked devices, like a Mac or iPad connected to your iPhone.
The issue affected older versions of WhatsApp for iOS (before 2.25.21.73), WhatsApp Business for iOS (before 2.25.21.78), and WhatsApp for Mac (before 2.25.21.78).
The flaw could have been abused along with another Apple system vulnerability to launch advanced attacks on specific people. Meta, which owns WhatsApp, told TechCrunch that it fixed the problem a few weeks ago and that fewer than 200 users got warnings that they might have been targeted. That’s not a huge number, but still enough to cause some worry about WhatsApp security and Apple devices.
Meta spokesperson Margarita Franklin said the company “detected and patched the flaw ‘a few weeks ago’” and sent out notifications to those affected.
WhatsApp credited the security bug to the Internal Researchers on the WhatsApp Security Team.
