Google Photos Adds Veo 3 AI Video Tool, But Not in Canada
Google is rolling out a new Create tab in Google Photos, bundling together its editing and AI features. The biggest change is the addition of Veo 3, Google’s latest video generation model, which can turn still photos into short video clips.
With the feature, users select a photo and choose between prompts like “Subtle movement” or “I’m feeling lucky.” Veo 3 then adds motion, producing higher-quality video clips than Google’s previous photo-to-video tools. Google says users will have a limited number of free generations each day, with subscribers to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra able to generate more.
The Create tab also centralizes other tools already in Photos:
- Remix: transforms images into new styles (anime, sketch, comic, 3D animation).
- Collage: builds layouts from multiple photos with editing options.
- Highlight videos: auto-generates montages set to music based on search terms.
- Cinematic photos: adds a 3D moving effect to still shots.
- Animations: turns bursts of photos into GIFs.
For now, the Create tab and Veo 3 are only live in the United States. Google hasn’t said when they’ll expand to Canada or other markets, so for now Canadians are on the outside looking in again. Veo 3 is available in limited access for Canadians with a Google AI Pro plan at $26.99/month, while Google AI Ultra users get highest level access, but at the price of $339.99 per month.
