Apple Intelligence Powers New Firefox Summarize Feature

Shake to summarize summaries 1024x610.

Firefox has introduced a new feature on its iOS app called Shake to Summarize. The tool gives users a quick summary of a webpage with a simple shake of the phone or by tapping an icon in the browser.

The feature is designed for shorter reads—webpages under 5,000 words. Users can trigger it in three ways: by shaking their iPhone, tapping the thunderbolt icon in the address bar, or selecting Summarize Page from the menu.

On newer iPhones (iPhone 15 Pro or later running iOS 26), the summaries are generated directly on the device using Apple Intelligence, interestingly enough. On older devices, the text is sent securely to Mozilla’s servers, where an AI creates the summary and sends it back.

The rollout begins this week in the United States for English-language users on Firefox for iOS, with more regions to follow (Canada needs to wait, again; then again, who still uses FireFox?). A prompt will appear the first time a user visits a page that can be summarized, and the feature can be turned on or off in settings.
