Apple has announced the Apple Watch SE 3, the latest version of its entry-level smartwatch, adding more health tools, 5G connectivity, and for the first time an Always-On display.

The new model is powered by Apple’s S10 chip, which enables faster performance, on-device Siri, double-tap and wrist flick gestures, and faster charging. Despite the new screen, the SE 3 keeps the same 18-hour battery life, with Apple claiming that a 15-minute charge can provide up to 8 hours of use.

“Apple Watch SE offers a great way for users to start their Apple Watch journey, delivering outstanding health, fitness, safety, and connectivity features at an incredible value,” said Stan Ng, Apple’s vice president of Apple Watch and Health Product Marketing. “With even more health features, an Always-On display, and fast charging, we’re excited to see the ways Apple Watch SE 3 supports more people around the world to live a healthier and more active life.”

Health and Fitness Features

Apple Watch SE 3 builds on its existing health suite with:

  • Sleep score to measure quality and consistency of rest.

  • Sleep apnea notifications, flagging signs of moderate to severe cases.

  • Wrist temperature sensing, feeding into Apple’s Vitals app.

  • Retrospective ovulation estimates for improved cycle tracking.

The watch also includes Apple’s standard safety tools like Fall Detection, Crash Detection, Emergency SOS, and Check In. Fitness tracking is expanded in watchOS 26, which introduces Workout Buddy, a new coaching feature powered by Apple Intelligence.

Durability and Connectivity

Apple says the cover glass is now 4x more crack resistant than the previous generation. The addition of a 5G modem makes downloads faster and more power efficient compared to LTE. But not so fast, 5G for Apple Watch is not available in Canada.

Availability

The Apple Watch SE 3 can be pre-ordered now and will be available on Friday, September 19.
